Ursula Nelson

Strength Coach

After a fulfilling career as Director of the Pima County Department of Environmental Quality, Ursula Nelson joined Smith Performance Center to pursue her long-standing passion for health, fitness, and strength training. Ursula has always valued the importance of physical fitness, having engaged in various forms of strength training and even competing in bodybuilding. Her commitment to health extends beyond personal practice; she loves learning new techniques and approaches to exercise and is motivated by the opportunity to help others reach their potential. It was this mindset that made her a perfect candidate for the SPC coaching staff.

Ursula first encountered Smith Performance Center as a member over five years ago, quickly finding herself drawn to the center’s unique approach to training and its dedication to long-term fitness solutions.

Reflecting on her decision to join the team, Ursula says, “I love learning new things and working with others to improve their lives. There’s something special about SPC’s mission, and I’ve experienced firsthand how the programming here can change a person’s life.

Now part of the SPC team, Ursula brings a balanced perspective on training and shares her philosophy with clients: “When you exercise, make sure you’re doing everything in balance—avoid doing random things or the same routine over and over.” She emphasizes that intentional, well-rounded workouts are essential for sustainable fitness gains.

Ursula’s approach to coaching is rooted in her enthusiasm for supporting others, and she genuinely enjoys working with people on their journey to improved fitness, mobility, and strength. Ursula is dedicated to helping clients not only meet their fitness goals but also experience the long-term physical and mental benefits that come from a balanced and thoughtful approach to exercise.
