Kenny Sewall
Strength Coach
Kenneth “Kenny” Sewall joined the Smith Performance Center team to bridge the gap between maintaining an active lifestyle after injury and pushing one’s physical limits. Having worked in programs with strength coaches and medical staff, Kenny recognized a disconnect between training and medical care- something he was eager to address once he showed up in Tucson.
Kenny is passionate about helping individuals regain their physical capacity and achieve performance goals. He believes overcoming mental barriers is as critical as selecting the right exercises. A significant barrier he encounters is fear: fear of not knowing where to start, fear of setbacks after injury, fear of pain, or fear of falling short of goals. Helping clients and the Smith Performance Center community conquer these fears is something Kenny finds deeply rewarding.
Kenny is no stranger to overcoming challenges. After being doubted by many who didn’t believe he could complete Marine boot camp, he not only made it through but went on to serve six years in the military. Following his service, Kenny earned a degree in Exercise Science and Kinesiology and worked with hundreds of collegiate athletes. These experiences honed his ability to adapt to each individual’s unique needs and make the necessary adjustments to help them succeed.
As Kenny says, “Work out with a purpose but be ready to change the plan as needed.”
Now, Kenny focuses on helping individuals find intrinsic value in fitness by improving movement competency, fostering exercise autonomy, setting and achieving meaningful goals, and maintaining a healthy, disciplined exercise routine. His impact on the SPC strength training membership has been immense, ranging from the agility program, improved exercise cueing, and strategy, to Olympic lifts and training with an active injury.
